Sarah Coley crowned Miss SSHS

Seventeen young ladies competed Saturday in the annual Miss South Side High School pageant in the school’s theater.

Contestants were judged in three categories: personality, poise and beauty.

And when the judges’ scorecards were tallied, senior Sarah Coley was crowned as queen.

“It was exciting and special,” said Coley, who wore a red Jonathan Kayne dress. “This is something that I’ve always wanted to win.”

Other top five finishers were first maid Kinley Viers, second maid Harlie McClintock, third maid Bre Ramsey and fourth maid Chloe Foged.

Coley is one of three senior captains on the football cheer squad. She has competed in 15 to 20 pageants since elementary school and finished in the Top 10 of the Miss SSHS pageant as a sophomore. After graduation, she plans to attend college and study forensic science or something in the dental field.

Other contestants were Asia Balfour, Hayley Emison, Camden Robertson, Camryn Burkhead, Jaycee Hurst, Prezley Harris, Taia Carter, Anna Prince, Alikate McDonald, Ashley Wortham, Autumn Williams and Brentley Brewster.

Laila Cox, who won the Miss South Side 2019 pageant, was recognized during this year’s event because last year’s event was cancelled for health concerns.

The annual pageant is a fundraiser for the senior class. Proceeds benefit prom and graduation.

The time for this year’s event was moved up four hours.

“We changed it to 2 p.m.,” pageant director Melissa Perry said. “Parents seemed to like that time change. Overall, it was another great year for the pageant.”

Escorts for the evening were Chyler Lee, Jaylan Cole, Rico Sain and Chris Williamson. By all accounts, they did a phenomenal job.

“They made me feel confident,” Coley said. “They boosted my confidence.”
