South Side sweeps McNairy for a pair of district wins

By HAWKNATION.NET

Playing in their first games in 11 days, South Side’s basketball teams returned to the court and swept visiting McNairy Central tonight (Jan. 23) in a pair of District 12-3A games. The Lady Hawks won by 29 points, the Hawks by 17 points.

South Side was closed all last week – and two days this week – for winter weather. Tonight’s games were originally scheduled to be played in Selmer but were moved to the Hawks Nest because there was no power in McNairy’s gym.

THE LADY HAWKS were led by Jaidynn Askins’ game-high 18-points in the 66-37 win to improve their record to 14-5 overall and 2-1 in District 12-3A. Aydison Dilworth scored 13 points.

Other scorers: Ri’Kiya Mitchell 7 points, Akira Lacy 3, Felicity Long 2, Kimora Currie 7, ReAnna Kemp 3, Zandria Cohill 2, Tiara Green 7, Makayla Bates 2 and Aubrey Lewis 2.

In the boys’ game, THE HAWKS’ Jamarion Grimes, a freshman center, scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half of a 61-44 win to improve the record to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in District 12-3A.

Other scorers: Braden Weldon 2 points, Jamarion Burns 3, Dacoda Nolen 2, Brennian Cole 9, Cash Montgomery 5, Kaleb Nettles 2, Simeon Graham 4, Robert Liggins 9, Chris Mitchell 3 and Amauri Goodman 2.

SCHEDULE CHANGE

The Feb. 9 games against McNairy will be played at McNairy. They were originally scheduled as home games for the Hawks and Lady Hawks but were swapped to accommodate for today’s power outage.

MORE SCHEDULE CHANGES

Two games – both home games for South Side – were postponed last week because of the winter weather. Those games against North Side and Lexington will be rescheduled. Dates and times will be announced when plans are finalized.
